Welcome to the Gloucestershire County Council Budget Simulator
In 2011 Gloucestershire County Council estimated it needed to reduce its budget by around £120m over a 4 year period because of spending pressures and government cuts. We asked the people of Gloucestershire to give us their views on where to reduce spending and by how much. As a result of the feedback we received and decisions made by our Cabinet, we made savings of £36m in 2011. We protected as much as possible the services the people of Gloucestershire told us were most important to them – services like adult and children’s social care, fire and rescue and maintaining the road network.
There is still a long way to go for us to make the savings necessary and as we begin the process of developing our budget for 2012, we once again seek the views of Gloucestershire residents to best understand which services they think are most important, bearing in mind we again need to identify savings of up to 10% of the current budget in 2012/13 to fund grant reductions and cost increases. You can use this budget simulator to give us your views.
NB this process is for simulation purposes only to help us understand broadly how you want to allocate resources relative to each other.
When making your budget decisions, please bear in mind the three Meeting the Challenge principles we shall be working to when setting the budget. They are:
